Wanna Know Why I Hate New Year's? - Part 2

Time to read: 15 seconds

Sparkly 1950s necklace, cuz, why not?

Last week I offered a twisted Happy New Year, cuz, well, I hate New Year's.

However, I do think reflection and intention setting each year is fun and helpful. I personally do an in-depth performance evaluation of my year and then set intentions and goals. I'm a coach so, of course, I do stuff like this.

You can keep it simple. Find one word to steer 2025. Imagine how different your year will be with one of these as your word: simplify, freedom, focus, connection.

Do you see how one word can flavor the atmosphere for your entire year and drive experiences and choices?

This new year, choose one word for 2025 and see what happens. Please email me and tell me all about how it works out!

Happy New Year, again!

Our monster cat

In the United States, the days are shorter and up here in the North, it's cold. Year-end has its own special bustle of strategic and budget planning and annual performance evaluations all combined with the holidays.

While you are busy planning 2025, I would like you to take a moment to plan your rest. What will you do in the coming weeks to rest and reflect as you prepare to draw the year to a close?

In athletics and physical training, rest is as crucial to building strength as work. So, be as serious and intentional about your rest as you are about your strategic plans and budgets.

Stay warm out there, my friends in the north!

What I Learned This Summer Part 2: Change Is Possible!

Couch necessities

Welcome to fall, everyone!

I took the entire month of August off. For the first time in my life, I took an extended break, and I learned a lot.

For the next few weeks, I'm going to share What I Learned on Summer Vacation and invite you to two live events inspired by my time off.(Details and sign-up below.)

Part 1: Change is possible

Fifteen years ago, I was so "busy" that I was unable to sit down to read a book. During winter break, a friend from work called every day to ask, "have you laid on the couch reading a magazine yet?"

Of course not! With my free time, I cleaned closets, sorted my children's toys, and ran to appointments. There was much to do, and all of it felt urgent. At my friend's suggestion, I lay down to read. I made it three minutes.

Fast forward to this August. Not only did I shut everything down for 5 weeks, I got Covid and spent 5 days isolated in my bedroom watching season after season of British mysteries. Not only was I able to slow down and watch TV for 5 days, I enjoyed it.

I'm sharing this story so you can see how the characteristics you think are "just who I am" can change. Through coaching, reflection, and practice, I've changed from a woman who felt like life was urgent to a woman who can exist in spaciousness. It felt revolutionary when I realized how much I've changed.

The bottom line: If you decide to, you can change old habits and behaviors, too in order to create your life according to who you want to be and what you want to do.

I've created two live events this October to help you make those changes. Get more info and sign up for Creating U here and Energizing U here.

Cool, isn't it?

Delighted to be back!

3 Tips For a Successful Transition to 2020

This is the second time my dishwasher has been featured in a newsletter.

Happy New Year!

It's 2020.

Chaos is the name of the game. My clients are experiencing chaos. I'm experiencing chaos. Do these examples feel familiar?

  • The dishwasher broke down.
  • Your child showed up to the class he's registered for and discovered he's not registered.
  • The scope on a work project crept over the holidays, and everyone on the team is confused about their role.
  • You're not sleeping well.
  • People are sick.

Here's the good news. Early January is a period of transition. Life doesn't immediately go back to "normal" on January 1st. The promise of the New Year doesn't take off on January 1st. It will take you a few days to a week to feel like the ground is solid under your feet again.

So, what's a Corporate Rebel to do in the chaos of transition?

  1. Get to know and accept your process. You have a process that guides you safely through a transition. Some parts of your process may not be pretty. Mine involves a major freak-out/melt down. A friend's involves apathy. Move through your process (even the messy bits) with acceptance and grace. After my melt-down, I have a day of super efficiency. It's like a storm blows through, clears the debris, and sets the runway for take-off.

  2. Be patient. Transitions aren't a one and done. Give yourself time to get back on your feet after taking time off.

  3. Take one step at a time. You'll find a firm foundation one email at a time. One meeting at a time. All you have to do is write that one proposal. Send that one inquiry. Call that one person. Pretty soon you'll be on a roll.

Then it will be spring break, and you can come home from vacation and do it all again.

Mid-January through the end of February are the perfect time to reflect on 2019 and create an intentional plan for 2020. If you'd like to talk about a powerful 2-session process to guide you through reflection and planning, hit reply to this email and we'll set up a quick time to chat.

Welcome back, Rebels!
